The Tropics Have More Than Nice Beaches

Just as the tropical rainforest is home to a diverse population of fauna, the tropics are also known for diverse and colorful plant-life. This is most evident when looking at the flowers that grow and flourish within this temperature range. Even looking at just one flower gives credence to this statement.

A good example of this would be the Torch Ginger. Hailing from Southeast Asia, this flower, belonging to the ginger family, has 60 species, the most popular of which is the E. elatior. It comes in different colors, the most popular of which is probably the Pink Torch Ginger. In this single flower, there are different shades of pink, testimony to its tropical roots. Other colors and shades include white, yellow and very vibrant red. You can take your pick. The color of a flower is often said to convey different meanings without the use of words. From the fresh innocence and purity of white to the explosive passion of red, you'll never have to struggle for another word again when you wish to express anything with flowers.

It often takes two years in a tropical climate to allow a plant to grow and mature and produce flowers. The torch ginger's leaves are large and green on top while the bottom side is maroon in color. Its beauty is not the only attribute that recommends it as when crushed, its leaves give off a ginger scent. Its flower buds are also used in dishes in Malaysia, while its shoots are often used as vegetables and are sliced in Thailand. After all, the tropics are also known for exotic dishes and their citizens are known for their resourcefulness.

Flowers are an all-important part of human interaction definitely worthy of attention. Sometimes, you should branch out from expressing yourself with the traditional rose or sunflower. Once in a while, take a look at these tropical flowers -- bursting with vividness, just waiting to spruce up a room -- because they may have exactly the right amount of comfort, beauty and color you want to add to your loved one's day.
